Bodegas San Alejandro in search of continuous improvement

Once again Bodegas San Alejandro, with the intention of improving and knowing more about the exciting wine world, has sent to one of its winemakers, Rubén Magallanes, to South Africa to cross the most important South African zones of winemaking and viticulture.  Across technical visits to different wineries, our winemaker, has managed to exchange impressions with other local enologists and to taste a lot of wines to understand their winemaking techniques and to study if they are applicable to Bodegas San Alejandro.

Rubén Magallanes en Sudáfrica

South Africa is one of the top countries in the production of white wines and with very interesting rosé and red wines.

Some of the cellars our enologist has visited are Neil Ellis Winery, Hartenberg, Satrk Conde, Eagles 'Net, Buitenverwaching, La Vierge, Creation, Newton Jhonson, Saronsberg, Swartland, Rijk's, Uni Wines, Perdeberg Group, Tokara, Spier and The Sadie Family Wines... One of the cellars elaborates a white wine with 11 different varieties of grapes and another one a rosé wine made of 47 varieties ¡!

Bodega de Sudáfrica

This adventure in South African territory has led us to organize a winemaking exchange with one of the wineries. Since the periods of vintage are not aligned (in South Africa it is harvested in January) this harvest we will have a South African enologist working with us and in january, Rubén will travel to South Africa again to do the same thing, but this time not as mere observer but getting up to the kitchen...

Surely this adventure will bring many good things to us, don't you think so?

Bodegas San Alejandro in Fenavin

Cartel de Fenavin 2015

The National Wine Fair, Fenavin, is our country’s benchmark wine Trade Show and it takes place in Ciudad Real every two years.

Since its first edition in 2001, the presence of national and international buyers has increased in every edition becoming the most important Trade Fair of Spanish wines at the moment.

Apart from the tastings, seminars and conferences scheduled for these 3 Fair days, the programme of Fenavin includes as distinguising tools for exhibitors and buyers: the « Winery Searcher » and  the « Contact with » programme. These tools’ aim is the optimization of the available ressources allowing both exhibitors and buyers to consult all the information about the wines and wineries present at the fair and their location in every pavilion. They also enable exhibitors and buyers to contact each other in advance so as to arrange scheduled meetings at the Fair itself.

This year Fenavin is opening its doors tomorrow May, 12th until next May 14th and amongst the 1.214 Spanish wineries that will exhibit at its 8th Edition, Bodegas San Alejandro will also exhibit its wide and representative range of Garnacha wines.

This will be the first Edition for BSA and we are all very excited !

We will let you know how it goes ! ;)

Bodegas San Alejandro incorporates precision viticulture techniques to improve their wines.

Vineyards of Bodegas San Alejandro

Along with a traditional viticulture that takes place on their area from celtiberian era, Bodegas San Alejandro has been implemented the Verdtech method for characterizing the spatial and temporal variability of its vineyards. This method uses the most modern sensors on the ground and from satellite to improve agricultural management.

During the first phase of the project has been implemented a GIS, with all the features that define the plots. This georeferenced database allows us to relate our vineyards with geographical variables such as altitude, orientation, or lithology, on which it sits.

In addition, it will make a territory zoning, based on these variables, to establish a differentiated viticulture units management.

Bodegas San Alejandro joins ancient tradition and modernity in its commitment to improve its wines.

A few days ago we were in the USA with our importer of Evodia. We did tastings in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco.

It was a great chance to know first-hand what our customers there think about Evodia! We have eventually concluded that we must continue on the same line because they love our wine!! WE LOVE EVODIA
